Thanks to everyone who made it out to the first mini hat tournament of 2005, the Tournament That Almost Was Not... It was fantastic to see some 24 players out on one of our last days of summer. We started with 5 a side but by lunch three teams had gained another player.

The first games had Johnnies Pilgrims coming out ahead of Camilla For Pope (13 -3). On field 2 there was a very close game between Spirit III and TUX with TUX winning by 2 at the buzzer (12-10). The second round had TUX moving fields to take on Johnnies Pilgrims again another close game for TUX this time coming out with a loss to Johnnies with a score of (11-12). On the other field Camilla For Pope played Spirit III with Spirit III leading the game winning at time (9-5). In the final game of the round robin Spirit III played Johnnies Pilgrims and lost 13-6. After taking an early lead TUX began to succumb to Camilla For Pope even after the loss of Ashleigh to an ankle injury TUX could not fight back for the win, losing 6-12.
After lunch it was time to head into the semifinals. This was a rematch of the first game of the day Johnnies v Camilla and Spirit III v TUX. Camilla For Pope managed to convince a passer by to play with them (thanks Ken) yet Johnnies who had been strong all day came out with the win (11-6). On the other field it was once again a tightly fought game between the 2nd and 3rd placed teams. After a really fun game TUX came out ahead and went into the final against Johnnies Pilgrims.
By the fifth game of the day we were all tired but still 11 players walked up to the line to finish off the last game. TUX and Johnnies Pilgrims traded points almost the entire game until TUX had a late break and moved ahead by two. At the buzzer TUX had pulled out the lead to 3 winning the game 13-10.
This was a fantastically spirited tournament. The spirit scores were close yet in the end TUX squeaked out the spirit prize followed by Spirit III, Camilla for Pope and Johnnies Pilgrims. I hope all had a great day and hope to see you all out there next time...
