The 'alf arsed adjusted hat (aaah) tournament was held on Sunday in mild and only slightly rainy conditions. The draw from the aaa hat divided the 21 contestants into the teams:
For most of the first game Fiddle had Hole under control, but Hole got organised [despite the nuisance of having one too many players] and snuck a goal ahead on the siren. After that, Hole were unstoppable, although all teams put up stiff resistance. The scores were:
| Round | Mountain Field | River Field |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Reckless 12 - Pants 5 | Hole 10 - Fiddle 9 |
| 2 | Hole 10 - Pants 7 | Fiddle 9 - Reckless 7 |
| 3 | Hole 9 - Reckless 5 | Pants 6 - Fiddle 4 |
We then had an entertaining concert of cheers to rev up for the playoffs.
Captain Cooke rallied his crew for the final, but their endeavours were wrecked by stiff defence - they couldn't find a hole in that wall. (Pun? What pun?) Final score 9-6.
The teams for the 3rd - 4th playoff were strengthened by Natalie Cahill (9) and Matty Dutkovski (11?), but the game ended in a brawl when Jeff pulled down Dion's shorts.
Pizza and awards followed.
Congratulations to the winners of the Spirit Award: Fiddle Sticks. Each Fiddler received a gold certificate.
The final-winners, Hole in the Wall, also received gold certificates.
The cherry ripe award: The player in the final showing most style. This award was shared by Kate Bull (for her elegant hammer) and Christian Martin (for appearing from nowhere to pull a very clean and almost layout block).
The "most spirited" player award (still working on the actual name of this award): The player who has been most fun and supportive to play with or against. The winner was chosen by players who have started playing ultimate recently in Hobart. And, the winner was Tom Caldwell. The honourable mentions include Canadian Emma, Christian Martin, American Chris, Dave Cooke, and Jeff Dunn.
MVP - Most Valuable Player: I can see why we don't usually have this award (for one thing it is darn hard to resolve), but I opted for it because some players are so reliable that we don't think to praise their skills. Four people were on equal pegging: Cookie, Emma, Ian and Mike. Four runners-up were Asher, Felix, Tom & Deno.
Violet Crumble Award: for the person who enlisted the most new recruits. I ate it. Sorry.
Thanks to everyone for participating, and to Mamoru, Jemery, Cookie and other helpers.
