Half hat tournaments, usually pretty low key affairs, are held sporadically in Tasmania, with the most recent tournament being the Tournament That Almost Was Not, on April 9, 2005. Some details for this tournament remain below to give you an idea of what to expect

Rules

The rules for the Almost Not tournament are based on the WFDF rules. The League takes the position of the TD under those rules. There are a few exceptions to these rules. Check the 2005 local rules here.

Half-hat Tournament History

History

The first Half Hat tourney was the AUTUMNAL (Affiliated University of Tasmania Ultimate May No Arty Logo) Hat tournament held in May 2000. Four pseudo hat teams (of around 6 players each) contested this tourney. Tournament director was Madeleine.

The second Half Hat tourney was the Triple H Tournament (Harry Hudini's Hat) held in March 2001. Four pseudo hat teams (of around 7 players each) contested this tourney. This tourney included full semi finals followed by a final. Tournament directors were Shavawn and Dene.

The third Half Hat tourney was the Winter Solstice Tournament held in June 2001. Four hat teams (of 6 players each) contested this tourney. This tournament introduced an innovative final system with teams 1 and 4 combining to take on teams 2 and 3 for the final, allowing 7 on 7 ultimate with subs. Tournament director was Shavawn.

The fourth Half Hat tourney was the Autumn Equinox Tournament held in March 2002. Three hat teams (of 7 players each) contested this tourney. This tournament introduced an innovative 3 team game where a whole team was substituted after every point - the team that just won a point stayed on and played the next point against the team that was on the sidelines. This tournament finished with social gathering and a barbecue. Tournament director was Mamoru.

The fifth Half Hat tourney was the Aaah Tournament held in July 2002. Four hat teams of 5 players each contested this tourney. Tournament director was Jeff. A full TD's report is also available.

The next Half Hat tourney was to be the Bruny Beach Hat Tournament scheduled to be held in March 2003. An unseasonal forecast for mountain snow resulted in a late cancellation of this tourney..

The sixth Half Hat tourney was the Long Knights Tournament held on June 22, 2003. Three hat teams of 6 players each contested this tourney. Tournament director was Jeff. A full TD's report is also available, complete with photos.

The most recent Half Hat tourney was the Tournament That Almost Was Not, held on April 22, 2005 at the Uni oval. Four hat teams of 6 players each contested this tourney. Tournament director was Shavawn. A full TD's report is also available. Photos may be added later - if anyone took any that is!
