This page is intended to give post-registration information to Two-Hat IX players. Information will be updated as it comes to hand. Check back regularly.
This year we have sufficient registrations to form 8 teams - 3 more teams than the previous record! There will be considerable time pressure, with minor round games to fit in, followed of course by the semi-finals and grand final. To fit all of this in, we need to start on time. If you can, please make sure that you show up before 9:00am on the day. Teams will be announced at 9:05am with the first game starting at 9:15am. (This ain't the Melbourne Hat - no 10:00am game starts here!)
While this is an ultimate tourney, it is only a one day tourney and we do want to fit in a full day's play, so we have a pretty tight schedule. If you want to turn up to the tourney on ultimate time, you'll probably miss the first couple of games at least!
You will need to work on your post game huddle or circle of love quickly, as there may only be 10 minutes between games. Games are to 21 (win by two, no half time) - with a hard(ish) time cap (finish the point, if the scores are tied, play one more point). One 60 second time out per team per game. All finals will have a 60 minute time cap.
The draft game schedule looks like this (although it may be modified).

While there will be nibblies provided at the party, if you are considering dinner before hand, we encourage you to book a table or eat a counter meal at Duke before the party - info below.
If somebody needs to be able to contact you at the fields during the day (and you don't have your own mobile telephone), you can get them to call Matt Smith's mobile phone number 0419 102 833.
A number of buses go to the Eastern shore. The Metro website has more information - but you may be better off phoning them up and asking them about the best bus to catch (which will depend on where you are travelling from too).
If you need a lift to the fields, you may be better off trying to hitch a lift with a fellow player. If you can't organise this yourself, try talking to Matt!
There is plenty of parking at Wentworth Park.
If you have a digital camera, feel free to bring it a long and take some happy-snaps on the day. Bring your cables too, and we can upload them onto a computer so we can make them available both on the web after the event and organise to display them on the big screen at the party. Otherwise pass them on to Matt Smith or JK.
As always, you need to bring your own disc for the Philip Redneck Ruddock Throw Them Overboard Disc Golf Classic - and maybe even a spare, if you are prone to throwing them overboard. Ultimate discs only thanks - no golf discs! If you are flying in late and want to play the golf, make sure you let Matt know, or we may start without you! Note the golf will consist of 18 holes. As with Two-Hat VII, this year we will be playing two consecutive rounds of 9 holes at the St David's Park course and will miss out on the long walk between courses and the very dark Princes Park course, in nearby Battery Point.
There will only be one start time for the Philip Redneck Ruddock Throw Them Overboard Disc Golf Classic. The first group will tee-off at around 8:00pm from St David's Park but as each group will be playing two rounds, if you arrive a little late, you should be able to find people still playing (or waiting to tee off) if you arrive a little later.
Remember that there are two categories for the golf, skirt wearers and non-skirt wearers, with a prize to be awarded for each category. Your choice as to the category in which you play.
Pre-golf dinner and drinks may be had at Salamanca, for those who are interested. TD Matt Smith will be found at the Vietnamese Kitchen from around 6pm, and then progress to Knoppies for a few beverages before the golf starts. Feel free to join Matt and friends.
The party venue will be at the Duke, 192 Macquarie St, starting at 7:30. Nibblies and finger foods supplied.
If you are interested in grabbing a bite to eat before the party, feel free to book a table at the Duke before hand, or grab a counter meal. You could even share a wood fired pizza during the party if you wish. For any booking, ring Paul on 6223 5206.
If you want to bring along friends and family who didn't play the Two-Hat, party entry is $5/head, to help pay for the food. Please let Matt Smith know before hand (if you can) so we know how many people to expect! Entry is free to all Two-Hat competitors.
Formal receipts will be written for registration payments for auditing purposes - but unless you make a special request, paper receipts will not be issued this year. You can check your registration, payment and AFDA status on the rego list however.
In past years, several people have suggested that the cost of the Two-Hat is somewhat high and they are interested to know where the money goes. The TUA is an incorporated, not-for-profit organisation and has to be independently audited each year. According to the 2003 audited statement, Two-Hat V made a total profit of $98. What this statement does not show is a "hidden" subsidy/gift of $127, (covering the costs of game discs and pizza at the party) from the Tas Uni Ultimate Frisbee Club. Without this subsidy, the event would have run at a small loss! According to the 2004 audited statement, Two-Hat VI operated at a small loss ($165). According to other audited financial statements (look for them yourself in the reports section of the TUA meetings page reports section of the TUA meetings page if you are really interested) Two-Hat VII made a small profit ($492) and Two-Hat VIII a small loss ($105) - so you are unlikely to be lining the coffers of the TUA through your Two-Hat registration!
In 2003, the costs per player were roughly: $25 for producing the t-shirts (we needed to print more t-shirts than we had players); $5 per head for the cost of lunch (extremely cheap, especially given the quality of the lunches and given that Stan provided his labour and expertise for free!); $7 for field hire (expensive - but very nice fields and they do have grass on them!); and $1 for prizes and miscellaneous expenses. The average fee collected per player was $35.39 and sales of sports drinks, chocolate bars and spare t-shirts raised just over $4 per player.
In 2004, the costs per player were roughly: $23 for producing the t-shirts ; $7 per head for the cost of lunch; $5 for field hire; $2.50 for AFDA fees; and $5.50 for advertising, prizes and miscellaneous expenses. The average fee collected per player was $40.42 and sales of sports drinks, chocolate bars and spare t-shirts raised just over $1.50 per player. In addition around $7 per player was spent on party costs.
In 2005, the costs per player were roughly: $23.50 for producing the t-shirts (we needed to print more t-shirts than we had players); $6 per head for the cost of lunch (extremely cheap, especially given the quality of the lunches); $6 for field hire (including grandstands); $2.50 for AFDA fees; and $2 for advertising, prizes and miscellaneous expenses. The average fee collected per player was $40.11 and sales of sports drinks, chocolate bars and spare t-shirts raised just over $2 per player. In addition around $8 per player was spent on party costs.
In 2006, the story was probably similar, but this detailed analysis hasn't been completed yet.
If anyone wishes to inspect the detailed Two-Hat V, VI or VII financial statements, talk to Jemery, or Matt for Two-Hat VIII. Any proceeds from the Two-Hat go towards supporting the growth of ultimate frisbee in Tasmania. Any losses are covered by the TUA. If anyone still thinks that the Two-Hat is expensive, and that they could run it for less, feel free to apply for the position of Two-Hat TD in 2008!
Limited numbers of excess Two-Hat IX t-shirts may be available on the day. If you want to reserve one of these shirts, talk to Matt. All remaining stocks of past Two-Hat shorts have been sold. These are now collectors items!
