IT’S SAFE AND FUN!

The sport has a very strong sense of sportsmanship and fair play.

Game play allows players to be as competitive or relaxed as they wish.

Rules are simple and adjudicated by the players – there are no referees as there’s no need.

It’s non-contact.

It’s indoor ultimate.

IT’S VERY SOCIAL!

Current players range in ages from 14 to "40s". Most players are in their 20s and 30s.

Matches are male/female mixed. Women tend to ‘mark’ other women, making for a fair challenge.

Matches involve both beginners and experienced players playing together

IT’S CHEAP!

$35 is all a new beginning player will pay for a 11 week season! Compare this to ANY other competitive sport.

The fee will cover field hire and insurance for 11 weeks and prizes.

You don’t need to buy any special equipment!

Helping newbies is central to the sport.

Beginners tend to ‘mark’ fellow beginners - everyone gets a go and can learn at their own pace.

WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

Ultimate Frisbee is a fast, free-flowing game played world-wide which combines elements of netball, soccer, grid-iron and touch footy. Players pass a frisbee up the field to others on their team and catch it in the end zone to score. The defensive team tries to intercept or knock the disc from the air. The game is non-contact, though small bumps etc are unavoidable. There is no running with the disc, and players have a count of 7 to pass it on. Out of bounds results in a turnover. We use netball court to play indoor ultimate.

Unique to Ultimate Frisbee is the underlying ‘Spirit of the Game’. There are no umpires, encouraging sportsmanlike play, and should a dispute arise, the disc goes back to before the last pass. Players are competitive but fair and truthful, physical but careful, intense but friendly.

The Tasmanian Flying Disc Association Winter League begins Monday July 22 (6pm) at Hobart Collage Sports Hall, Mt Nelson.
