2007 Hobart Winter Indoor League

Overview

Winter League is often run indoors and this year's Winter League was no exception. Once again indoor league moved from the traditional Monday evening to Wednesday evenings, due to issues of court availability.

The 2007 Hobart Winter Indoor League ran for 9 weeks from July 18 to September 12 on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30-8:30pm (note the new 2 hour time slot), at Hobart College Sports Hall, Mt Nelson. This was supposed to involve four 50 minute games with 2 games played simultaneously, with one game on each court (and swapping courts half way through each game). However, the courts were double booked and we could only use one court for the first hour. With six teams this meant a schedule with only one game for each team every night (no byes). Note that this was a change from the two game per night schedule used in the 2006 indoor league. The league co-ordinator was Basil van Riet, with a little help from John Kristensen.

Indoor league uses a basketball court with the goal circle as the end zone and playing with teams of 4, minimum of 1 woman on the court at all times, defence must match offence (if possible). Each game is 50 minutes long and the stall count is 7.

League Organisers' Report

Dear Frisbee land,

A bit late as it may be, but for everyone's info. For those people that did not make it to the finals of winter league.

Semi Finals

The semi finals were both very exciting and closely fought games with only 2 points difference in the final scores.
Glacio (22) def Just Lean (20)
FH (24) def Cat Empire (22)

Grand Final:

The grand final (Glacio vs FH) was another tightly fought game with the eventual premiers being GLACIO (26-23)! Most importantly the SPIRIT prize was awarded to Disc-o-techs - well done. Wooden spoon went to Tanglefoot, losing the 5th-6th playoff to Disc-o-techs, 24-16. Most improved beginner player went to Derek Zwart from Glacio. Style in the final went to Gifford Wong from Glacio. Congratulations to all players. Bring on the Two-Hat and Spring league.

A post league TUA social gathering (including Winter league players) was held at the Royal hotel from 8pm on Saturday 15th Sept.

Adios
John K. and Basil vR.
