2005 Results

Round 1 (January 16)

The light team won 12-7 after taking the half 9-6.

Round 2 (February 6)

The light team won 14-5 after taking the half 9-4. The dark team led early at 2-0 then 4-2, before the light team started playing zone defence and turned the game on its head!

Round 3 (March 6)

A great turnout, with 21 players, 3 spectators and 2 dogs enjoying a fine cool morning at Nutgrove (along with hundreds of little "Try-athletes"). The dark team performed better than previously, putting in strong defence, especially when using zone, but the light team still managed to use their low error rate to get the goals and keep ahead, winning 9-8.

Round 4 (March 20)

This weekend once again the white team came out on top (12-10). Though only barely squeaking by with a win. The black team fought hard with all its speed and might. This forced the white team to try a bit of horizontal stack for a change and FM and the odd junk defence on the turn. The black team countered by mixing things up as well. Can't remember all that they used but a few zone D's, Standard and Feldrenners were all the go. It was great to see the improvements of players on both teams who had recently been away for Regionals in Melbourne.

Round 5 (April 17)

Round 5 of the TUC roster presented players with fresh and slippery conditions combined with a lack of wind and some much appreciated sunlight. With almost perfect playing conditions (who doesn't want to slide around a bit?) both teams came out in force to try and notch up a win. The white team played well and were nicely organised, utilising pre-point plans to overcome the black teams defence. Despite the lack of wind some Zone Defence also came into play for the White Team. The black team played a bit of FM and did a lot of hard running but were unable to capitalise on some key points. This resulted in the white team taking half at 9-2.

After the half time break the black team were re-inspired and managed to pull off some very smooth points. The white team kept edging forward as well and as the time-cap was called the resulting score was something like 13-7.

Well played by one-and-all. Bring on Round 6!

Round 6 (May 8)

Round 6 unfortunately for the black team saw whites continued domination on the 2005 TUC. With only 5 members on the black team, and 6 on the white team showing up white sportingly offered to play seven aside rather than 6. They settled on playing with 5. Some great play was seen by those that turned out to watch (2 spectators including a dog) with Pat taking a great layout catch in the endzone. Half time was called early with the score at 7-3 to white.

After changing fields to increase spectator numbers (now up to 2 and a dog) play got under way again. Jemery made a spectacular dive in the end zone catching the frisbee only to have it knocked out of his hands upon impact. He obviously saw it as his duty to see that the spectators got a good show. The end result saw white win 12-6.

The performance probably best summed up by Pat on the day. "Aaron, tell me how good we look???"

Round 7 (May 29)

Round 7 saw a long awaited reversal of fortunes. White Trash, with 8 players to the black team's 6, took the early lead, 3-1, before black levelled the scores at 3-3. Points were more or less traded until half time, with black finishing the half in front at 9-8. With footballers preparing to take over the ground, the black team continued their strong run after half time, playing very disciplined ultimate and taking the game comfortably, with the final score 15-11.

Round 8 (June 26)

16-10 to White Trash??

Round 9 (July 24)

11-10 to White Trash after time cap.

Round 10 (August 14)

13-9 to White Trash after time cap. The lead changed a couple of times in the first half with White Trash taking the half 9-8.

Round 11 (September 4)

The final score was 17-14 to White Trash (or was it 18-14?). White Trash took the half, but until the score was 14-14, there was only ever 1 or 2 points in the game, with the scores frequently tied. To field 6 players, White Trash had to pick up two players, both of whom had previously played for the Dark Side, meaning that the game was effectively forfeited. The lead changed a couple of times in the first half with White Trash taking the half 9-8.

Round 12 (September 25)

The final score was 11-10 to White Trash (or was it 12-11?). White Trash took the an early at lead 2-0, but this was soon pegged back to 2-2, with the lead throughout the game never exceeding 2 points. To field 6 players, White Trash again had to pick up two players, both of whom had previously played for the Dark Side, meaning that the game was effectively forfeited. White Trash took the half 9-8.

Round 13 (October 16)

The final score was 12-10 to the Dark Side. In a see-sawing game, the Dark Side started very strongly, taking the first 6 points, and (following a strong comeback by White Trash) the half 9-7. The scores were tied at 10-10 after half, before the Dark Side eventually closed out the game. Both teams had a full team (with substitutes).

Round 14 (November 6)

The final score was 13-11 to White Trash. After trading points for most of the first half, the Dark Side took the half 9-8. White Trash finished slightly stronger, and with the score at 12-11 at time cap, White Trash scored the last point to take the game 13-11. On a warm morning, the game was played 6 on 6 with each team having a sub. Dark Side lent JK to White Trash for the game (to even up the numbers) - so we may as well give the game to the Dark Side officially!

Round 15 (November 27)

The final score was 13-10 to the Dark Side. After a very close first half, the Dark Side took it 9-8, the Dark Side finished off the game off strongly. Additional feature of this game was the autmatic sprinklers which advanced down the field as the game progressed. The game was played 5 on 5 with the Dark Side having the luxury of a sub.

Final result

After 15 games, the 2005 Tasmanian Ultimate Champions are White Trash with a score of 9 games to 6.
