The Tasmanian Ultimate Championships were initiated in June 2002 by Ian Warren. Ian wanted to see a continuation of the Sunday morning training sessions and hard games which started in 2001 in the lead up to Nationals 2002. All players need to be current AFDA members for insurance purposes.
There were two teams entered in the 2002 TUC. This championship was played as a series, with one round every 4th Sunday. Games were played from 8:45-10:00am with warmups, team drills and tactics starting at 8:00am. In addition to TUC games, there were fortnightly (or monthly) Nationals training sessions held occasionally on alternate Sundays from 8-10am.
League fees for the TUC in 2002 were: $0. However it is compulsory for all players in TUA leagues to be AFDA members. This includes the TUC!

The rules for the 2002 TUC are basically the WFDF rules with a few minor variations.
The 2002 TUC was played every 4 weeks, more or less.

The first round of the TUC was held on June 16, 2002 with the winner being the imaginatively named Team 2, beating Wild Fling by a large but unknown margin. The July 14 game was much closer with Team 2 defeating Wild Fling 10-9. The August 11 game was a bit of a walkover, with Team 2 winning 14-7 or thereabouts, although they needed two pickup players to form a team of 6. Is this officially a forfeit? Maybe this decision needs to be negotiated between the two captains... The September 8 game saw Wild Fling finally win a game, defeating Team 2 15-8. Wild Fling had 7 players but Team 2 could only manage to produce 5 players.
The fifth round of the TUC, October 6, saw the team previously known as Team 2 come up with a team name, WOM. Finding a team name coincided with a change of fortunes for WOM, as not only did they manage to avoid a forfeit, they also won a close game 15-13, after coming back from being down 5-8 at half time. As with Round 4 Wild Fling had 7 players to WOM's 5, but this time Wild Fling couldn't take advantage of their extra players.
The sixth round of the TUC, November 3, saw both teams field 8 players, with WOM picking up two new players and Wild Fling picking up one. This resulted in a game of 7 on 7. Unfortunately it wasn't a very close game, with WOM taking the half 8-5 and then proceeding to a 14-6 walkover.
The seventh round of the TUC, December 1, once again saw both teams have substitutes. This game was much closer than round 6. WOM held a 7-4 lead at one stage - but Wild Fling came back to level the scores at 7-7 before WOM finally took the half 8-7. With the time cap passing at half time, Wild Fling had to score two consecutive points to take the game. It didn't quite happen with WOM scoring the second point and taking the game 9-8. Highlight of the game was Cari catching a goal despite the attempts of Matt (her team mate) to take out both Cari and the disc!
Apparently the eighth round of the TUC, December 15, was a flop. Rumour has it that this round was abandoned and a pick up game was played instead. Might as well count this as a victory for Wild Fling!
After 8 games the score was 5-3 to WOM, which gave a clear series victory and the 2002 Tasmanian Ultimate Championships to WOM, in spite of some imaginative scorekeeping.
Thanks to Ian Warren for being the first TUCO (TUC Organiser).
