Vacant Air, April 2002

Vacant Air, 2002

In April 2002, a combined Tasmanian/Victorian team played in the Women's division of the Australian Ultimate Championships. This was the first Tasmanian Women's Ultimate team to play Nationals north of Bass Strait. In addition thirteen Tasmanian men played with Choice Cuts in the Open Division in the same tournament. Both teams won the Spirit of the Game prize in their respective divisions, with Vacant Air in 10th place and Choice Cuts finishing in 14th position.

Vacant!
Vacant Air team photo. Vacant Air were:
(top layer) Cath Bowker (Vic), Madeleine Cahill (Tas), Rosalina Ferrarelli (Vic), Louisa Fearnside (Vic), Michelle Chan (Vic), Naomi Petrie (Tas - complete with broken collarbone);
(bottom layer) Emma Richardson(Can/Tas), Liz Blink (Vic), Julie Ducharme (Vic), Gabrielle Hogan (Vic), Kay Pelletier (Vic), Shavawn Donoghue (Tas), Leslie Tse (Tas)

Vacant Air's spirit was something to be seen, if not heard. Fortunately, thanks to Sigi from Choice Cuts, there are some video clips of which demonstrate some of the Vacant Air spirit, and some still photos (see below).

Spirit Winners
The Vacant Air cheers and on and off field spirit clearly won them the spirit prize... (Leslie, Kate, Emma, Madeleine, Shavawn)

Champions?
...if not the Championship itself.

Who won the party?
Two prominent players from Vacant Air and Choice Cuts at the Op Shop ball. One of them was from the group which "won the party". Hmmm, wonder which one? Thanks to Sigi for the photo.
