Tassie Tig-gers at Southern Regional Championships, Melbourne, March 12-13 2005

Tassie Tig-gers, March 2005

In March 2005, the Tassie Tig-gers played in the first ever Southern Regional Championships, a qualifying tournament for the Open Division of the Australian Ultimate Championships 2005, featuring teams from Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia. 16 Tig-gers made the journey across Bass Strait to play a two day tournament in Melbourne in very hot weather on March 12 and 13, 2005.

Official report from Captain Mike!

First of all: well played everyone at Regionals! It was great to see the team improve over the course of the weekend, and I think we were unlucky we didn't get more wins than we did. Hopefully everyone who played their first interstate tournament can take the lessons learned and improve their game further for next time.

For the record, the results were:

GameOpponent Score
1. Naturally-Gifted (Melbourne)12-6
2. Ballarat15-6
3. Chilly B (Melbourne)7-10
4. Karma (Adelaide)8-14
5. Chilly A (Melbourne)6-15
6. MUF (Melbourne Uni)15-5
3rd v 4th playoff Karma (Adelaide)7-10

As expected, Chilly A won the tournament, followed by Chilly B (seeded 4th but with the advantage of being able to field a strong team due to playing at home), and Adelaide Karma. Despite the Tig-gers 4th place, they still qualified for Nationals 2005 in Perth. Tiggers were seeded 3rd behind the National Ultimate Frisbee league teams Chilly A and Karma.
