Minutes of the TUA Meeting, 15 January 2004 Shipwright Arms Public House, Battery Point Present: Jeff, Jemery, Mike, Asher, Kate Godber, (Craig, briefly) Apologies: Dave, Madeleine Last minutes: accepted (moved Mike, seconded Jeff) Correspondence: nil 1. Craig commended the "Sock-it-to-you" fund raising scheme, especially for the Nationals team. Item left to be considered by the Nationals team. 2. Pre-league coaching The session on 12th January considered a success, with a moderate turnout. Suggestion that it should in future be held in 5-6pm timeslot, and followed by a game, provided the field is free in the earlier timeslot. 3. Spring League report League was a success - nothing unusual to report. 4. Womens Development Gender mix got worse between Winter & Spring leagues Kate - social aspect is very important; women will be more interested in playing and staying if more social activities and social atmosphere. All - the rules which were intended to support women's involvement have at times been counter-productive, such as recent cases of women been put off or injured by not being allowed to sub off. Consensus that - stick with present rules but apply them loosely and selectively, with league organisers to have discretion in relaxing sex ratio rule. - increase involvement of all players by experienced players avoiding throwing to each other - increase awareness of and communication with new players by trying to learn everyone's name - possibly through name-game cheers. 5. Summer League Asher and Kate put together team lists for the league, with inputs from all. Have 4 teams of 7 paid players. 6. Tas Uni O-week stall Mike organising, with help from Lucy, Joe? Mike would like info about the stalls - will have to ask Cookie or others? CSIRO-Uni challenge still planned for Friday of O-week. Mike to run beginners drills during O-week. 7. CSIRO-Uni Challenge: being organised by Mike & Jeff for O-week. 8. Tas Discs We have the money but no design yet. The next meeting set as the deadline for the current design process. 9. Tasmanian Ultimate Championships (TUC) No urgent call to resume the TUC, as present main focus is Nationals. Majority say that TUC should be held on Wednesday evenings (take Nats training timeslot after Nats.) Mike would like TUCs to complement training, prob by slotting in before training, in last week of March and one week before Nats. Could hold another some time in Feb. Concern about previously poorly matched teams - Kate offered to review team lists. Jeff offered to organise TUCs 10. Tiggers - training starts Wed 21st Jan - those not in squad welcome to join training - first session to begin with general management discussion - some progress on team shirts. These will be available to non-members to buy (to help reduce per-item costs.) - Mike is looking for pickups. Rules now apply to pickups. - Nats flights website is now live. 11. AFDA Coaching Jemery & Mike have some involvement with the national coaching program development. 12. AFDA conference included discussion of event-based AFDA fees... 13. Office of Rec & Sport funding/grant applications Jemery - our application rejected because we didn't have a financial statement, which we couldn't have because we didn't exist previously. Jemery thinks this sucks. 14. AFDA funding We have now received this funding, comprising $1000 startup assistance grant and a $1000 loan for purchase of discs. 15. AGM Planned as an extremely brief formality, to be held at 8pm at the Summer league finals night, 22nd March. 16. Autumn League Agreed to have separate autumn and winter leagues. Jeff will initiate organising, but happy to let others take over. Mike can help, especially with unlocking the gym early, if based again in Mt Nelson. 17. Next Meeting Thurs March 11th 2004, 5pm, Shippies. Meeting Closed at 7.30pm
