Minutes of the previous meeting confirmed: Shavawn

Seconded: David Cooke

Correspondence: Letter of confirmation from HCC for ground booking for winter tournament – 12.00 to 4.00 pm, Sunday June 22nd

Winter League: 3 teams.  Season ends on June 23rd.  Proportions of women high, but total numbers low. Teams to be encouraged to try and gender match.  Social activities after games to be reinstituted.

Deep Winter League: Cari will be away from mid-July, but Madeleine is willing to run a deep winter league, if 3 teams can be maintained.  Jeff willing to act as co-organiser.  Cost to be the same as the winter league.  8 week period in July-August.  Shavawn may put a team in.  Craig should also be contacted to see if he will put a team in from Tafi.  Worth checking University of Tasmania gym for availability before booking Hobart College.  Last year, several Uni bookings folded in July,

Spring League: Need to put major effort into recruiting for spring league.  Jeff willing to coordinate the league.  Passive advertising campaign?  E.g., Weekly mail out results of winter and deep winter league to Tas-ultimate?

Spirit scores: New system not liked, but will be retained for winter league.  The scheme focuses too much on the negatives and not on the positives.  People are focussing on finding fault with the game.  Some dispute over whether deductions of points should be justified between captains.  Madeleine thinks this is good and should continue.  Cari disagrees, and Louise doesn’t like the public airing of spirit decisions.  Shavawn doesn’t like the way the score is decided. Suggestion that we should add points for positive play.  Joe said that in Sydney they start at 7 and move up or down.  Are we misinterpreting Pottsy’s scheme?  Too literal on the interpretation? Jemery will give Pottsy feedback and will seek comments.

Mixed Nationals: Shavawn is keen for us to send a team.  We will need as many women as men.  Can we get five women?  Shavawn to report at next meeting..

Winter Tournament: Low budget, low energy effort for this boutique 4-hour tournament.  3 registrations so far – minimum of 12 required.  Coincides with send-off for Dan and Leslie.  Felix may organise a social event.  Suggestions for advertising most welcome.

Government Funding: Chance for TUA to apply for money in June-July.

Womens’ Development: No action to report.  Something will happen before next grant application.  Cari, Shavawn and Madeleine to get together & discuss.

Nationals Team: Ranked 19th, finished 12th, and won the SPIRIT prize in the Open Division.  A Nationals team dinner is planned on the weekend of the 14th and 15th of June.

Tas Uni Ultimate Society Report: Grant application submitted in May - funding application for $375 for discs, and $1000 for two-hat tournament.  New discs have been purchased and are now for sale at cost.  Garry attended May sports council meeting.  Tuesday and Thursday pickup numbers down.  Very disappointing number of new players recruited through pickup in 2003.

Tasmanian Discs: Printing discs for Tasmania can’t be financed in 2003.  Maybe government grants will provide seed funding.  Only Jeff submitted a design so far.

Disc golf competition: Planned for the Friday evening before the two-hat V tournament.  6-hole round in St Davids park planned.

Financial report: Pending.  We have around $300 in the bank.  $150 for first-aid kit.  Registrations still being paid for winter league.  AFDA fees???

Other Business

Coaching and development: Craig interested in running coaching sessions for beginners at spring league.  Skill is a big issue for beginners.  Structured format?

TUC: To be reinstituted.  1 game per month.  Shavawn and Jeff to organise.

AFDA fee structure: New complicated structure.  Some problems with winter league re novices.  $10 for novices.  $20 for uninsured regional.  $30 for regular.  $40 for nationals players.

Nationals team eligibility 2004: Not discussed yet by AFDA.  Shavawn to report at next meeting.  Open at Nats may split into two divisions.

Two-hat V: Jemery to be tournament director.  Fields tentatively booked.

Next meeting: Thursday July 3rd.

Meeting closed: 7.04 pm.
