MINUTES

The Committee accepted that the previous minutes were a true and accurate account of the meeting.

SPRING LEAGUE WRAP-UP

Spring league budget tabled by Jeff via email and accepted by the committee. It was reported that the league will have made a $130 profit after he is paid $270 for field hire and possibly some more money for the timer, provided he finds it. Three hip hurrays were given to Jeff for a successful league.

However, half the cones are missing at present, after the demo game at Geilston Bay High. Phil from Tequila Bats probably has them and will hopefully return them at the beginning of summer league. Otherwise, the TUA will have to charge someone for the loss and get replacements.

SUMMER LEAGUE

League starts Monday, 20th January and there will be 4 pre-made teams. Numbers of players will be a bit variable at first as people are still away on summer vacations. League finals will be restructured and the format revealed once it is sorted out. Most likely, the format will be one longer game per evening closer to the end of the league and will incorporate the standings from the round robin in deciding the finals.

Once again, the importance of the role of captains as team manager will be emphasised. Leslie to bring the ”captains” handbook. Teams will be required to nominate a vice-captain to assist the captain. The league will trial getting a field set-up roster organised for teams to set-up fields on a rotating basis. This will take a bit of pressure off the League Organiser (LO) in having to do everything. One team per evening will be responsible for setting up and taking down the fields. Cones will be either left in the change rooms or Leslie will bring them every time. Teams will be penalised 2 spirit points if they do not get the fields set up when it’s their turn. Basically, if the LO has to think about field set-up then the team loses points.

Captains are responsible for returning game scores and spirit scores to LO, rather than the LO chasing around for them.

Jeff will process results unless Leslie figures out how to use the program.

Shavawn’s team, because of large number of women playing will be required to field a reverse gender ratio ie. 4/1 or 5/2 women to men.

Dan moves to hip hurray Jemery for his webmastering of the TUA site. Committee seconds motion. Jem to change league rego page in future to make it bit less confusing, make the link to the AFDA member page clearer and put an option on the submitted page to return to the main page.

Kids in the league will be allowed provided they can meet a minimum skill requirement (ie throw certain distance, catch…) and it is agreed upon by both team captains. This issue will be dealt with as it arises.

There will be 2 public holidays during summer league –27 Jan and 10 Feb. League carries on as usual.

WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT

The first women’s frisbee skills session is being held on Sunday, 19th January at Sandown fields in Lower Sandy Bay. A message notifying of the event was posted to Tas-Ultimate and to the CSIRO digest. There will be a 1 ½-2 hour skills session focusing on throwing and catching skills and learning the game, followed by a social BBQ that everyone is invited too.

Another skills session will be organised in March and promoted more widely, after Uni starts.

BEACH TOURNI

Because Joe’s not around, Shavawn has volunteered to be TD for the beach tourni. A potential location is Adventure Bay on Bruny Island because it’s a nice beach and there is camping nearby. Potential dates are March 1-2 or an equinox tourni. Shavawn to report back at next TUA meeting.

NATIONALS

Still the question of who is playing. AFDA is considering changing format of Nats to make it more competitive so might be last chance to send a Tassie team for a while.

There is strong resistance to having training on Sunday mornings. Other suggested times are Mondays 4-6pm (before league), Sundays 6-8pm or another weekday morning time. People who would like to play Nats will be meeting to discuss what they want to do about leadership, training and other issues.

Several people who won’t be playing Nats have expressed interest in participating in the training too. Will help fill numbers in order to make 2 lines and play games.

IGM & CONSTITUTION

Constitution discussion is finished. IGM will be held on the 17th March after league finals. More planning to come for TUA closer to IGM.

TUC

The TUC ended in December. There may possibly be a revival prior to Nats to help with training.

The TUC was a highly successful activity that was enjoyed by everyone who participated.

AUTUMN LEAGUE

The Committee debated whether to organise an autumn league. It was decided to have a break for a few months and have an extended winter indoor league beginning in June until August.

TASSIE DISCS

The Committee agreed that getting some Tassie discs printed would be a good idea. It was mentioned that having “Australia” somewhere in the design would help it sell to overseas players. The order could be piggy-backed onto another state’s order. Would probably get 144 discs (2 boxes) and sell to Taswegians and other states. Possibly hold a contest to get a design.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday 19th February, 8.00pm at Shavawn’s  (4 Rowan Court, Taroona).
