Two Hat IV (Jemery) 7. Incorporation/Tasmanian Ultimate Association (Mamoru/Jemery) 8. Spring League planning (Mamoru/Jeff) 9. Mamoru's report from World Clubs (Mamoru) 10. TUC report (Ian) 11. Schools (Mamoru) 1. Uni Games (Mamoru) We don't have team. 2. Winter League progress report (Mamoru) It is going well. Still 4 teams, always plenty of players. 3. Aaah Tournament Report (Jeff)a Tournament went well with 4 teams of 6. It ended up making a $30 profit rather than a loss because when the numbers looked low Jeff reduced the tournament to a half day rather than the intended full day. Jeff recommends committed promotion for any future events to ensure maximum participation. 4. Nationals 2003, Canberra. (Mamoru) Canberra Nationals will be held over the Anzac Day long weekend and will include other flying disc competitions as well as ultimate. Mamoru is keen to start training now in preparation for Canberra Nationals. Expectation is for a near to full men's team and a strong half women's team. Mamoru has volunteered to organise the men's team and also organise training. Shavawn has volunteered to organise the women's team. Mamoru wants training to be 3 hours once a week and have a focus on skills. 5. Mixed Nations 2002, Sydney. (Madeleine) There is insufficient interest or time to get a team together for the 2002 competition but should consider it for next year. 6. Two Hat IV (Jemery) Jemery has booked two fields at Wentworth Park for Sat, 12 Oct. He will have to order the t-shirts from Sydney this week for them to arrive in Hobart in time for printing. The numbers are not known yet except that about 8 people will be coming from interstate - so Jemery will make an educated guess of how many t-shirts and colours are required. I don't think he's decided yet. Jemery is paying up front for the t-shirts as he has for the previous 2-hat tournaments and could make a loss if he guesses wrong. Design for T-shirt hasn't been designed yet. Denny and Leslie have offered to give it a go. Cost of tournament will be designed to get people registering early to help with other organisational aspects. before Sep 1 - $40 before Oct 5 - $45 before Oct 12 - $50 Oct 12 - very expensive Action: Dave C. will see whether Uni sports Association will subsidise students for tournament. There was some discussion on timing of two-hat as it is just the weekend after the Halibut and just before Mixed Nationals. Jemery is unwilling to change future two-hat tournament times because it is a good time to get the fields because it is between seasons. Although there was a comment that it is a bad time for students because it is at the end of semester. Jemery thinks it is time for him to hand over two-hat TD job to anyone who is willing to take it on. 7. Incorporation/Tasmanian Ultimate Association (Mamoru/Jemery) Reasons for incorporation: i) Insurance liability for tournaments and leagues doesn't rest on an individual. ii) Can create a monetary buffer (kitty) so losses (or gains) of tournaments are not absorbed by an individual. iii) Have to be incorporated if you want to run Nationals, Mixed or Open. iv) Mamoru would like to approach schools to introduce frisbee skills and ultimate to the kids and needs to be a representative of an official group to be taken seriously - although this doesn't require incorporation - just a TUA. Requirements for incorporation: i) $105 ii) yearly auditing - cost unknown. Action: Jeff to find out. iii) constitution. Action: Jemery will come up with a draft iv) 3 office bearers , President, Secretary, Treasurer - also need public officer but may be one of the above. v) Mamoru proposes a post office box for the address. He will investigate price. Shavawn motioned that we investigate the option of becoming incorporated. Ian seconded it. Votes for: 7. Votes Against: 0. There were 5 abstentions as those people (Matt, Naomi, Dan, Leslie and Tom) have plans to leave the state. The motion was carried with the above actions to be followed and reported on at the next meeting. 8. Spring League (Mamoru/ Jeff) Spring League will be held: Mon, 21 Oct - Mid December Mamoru will start it off and Jeff will take over the running while Mamoru is away. Will have pre-organised teams as for indoor league. Mamoru would like to hand over running of leagues to the next person or the TUA. Mamoru proposed 4 leagues with his optimal timing being: summer: Mid Jan - early March autumn: 1st semester of Uni winter: 2nd semester of Uni spring: end of Oct - mid Dec Some disagreement about number of leagues - others proposed only 2 leagues and if we do have autumn league it should be indoor too. Jemery commented that AFDA fees will increase from $10 to $40 once tournament or league becomes bigger than 4 teams or 40 players. Will talk to Pottsy about a possibility of a sliding scale on the current deal. Mamoru and Jeff will report back about Spring League next meeting 9. World Clubs (Mamoru) It was great. 120 teams, thousands of competitors. 10. TUC (Ian) Going well but all would like to see at least 7 a side. Jeff wants an 8am start and to have teams training more individually at times. General agreement on that although no one actually said they would be there at 8 am next time. Possible conflict with Nationals training remains unresolved. 11. Schools (Mamoru) Mamoru would like to try to build Ultimate in Tasmania by teaching the game at schools. Ian found that similar efforts in Orienteering resulted in a huge drop out rate - one major reason being that they need to be driven around. Ian suggested that it would be good to get a demonstration of ultimate organised for a Tasmanian PE teachers conference. 12. Next meeting September 11, Shavawn's place, 8pm. Meeting closed 10pm
