Tasmanian Ultimate Association Meeting Minutes 19/6/2002
Present: Jeff, James, Mamoru, Jemery, Joe
Apologies: - Dion, Craig, Matt, Naomi, Cari
Agenda:
Nationals 2003 will be held in the ACT, our bid went down. There is nothing else to say.
Mamoru is investigating the situation regarding Bendigo. He is fairly sure that Tasmania will NOT get a special spot, since it would come at the cost of an already established team from the Eastern Region.
Hopefully more information will be available soon.
We need more girls to participate, however. We need 4 women and 11 men (at least) to submit a team, and deadline is August, so further recruitment must be done.
Only the finals to go. The verdict is that it was a very cold and wet league, generally speaking, and the repeat league next year needs review. Suggestions were:
Longer games to make it worthwhile
A longer league, to make it worthwhile
Announced much earlier than two weeks before it starts.
Jeff has volunteered to co-ordinate this league next year.
Details have been announced by Mamoru.
Now known by its formal title, the One-Off One Hat Tourney
Saturday 27th July, probably at Sandown or Wentworth. It must be booked ASAP, but we need a Certificate of Currency first.
There will be four teams and the proposed timetable is as follows.
Game 1: 10:00-10:55
Game 2: 11:15 – 12:10
Game 3: 12:30 – 1:25
Game 4: 1:45 – 2:40
Final : 3:00 – 4:00
Thus, 4 x 55 minute games, and a 1 hour final. A 20 minute break between each game. Lunch will NOT be provided, but fruit will be available free of charge, and chocolate bars and drinks available to purchase.
There will be a BBQ starting at 3:30, providing free food for those watching the grand final, and this barbeque will continue until the final has finished, to guarantee the top teams don’t miss out.
Then there will be awards presentation at roughly 4:10. There will be a spirit prize, and team prize, and a prize for the largest "newbie recruiter"
Cost will be $25, and $15 for students, with a further $5 discount available for both if pre-registered (though the date for early registration has not been set)
Verdict after two serious Sundays is that it is a good idea, but it really needs more people to be effective. This means better organisation and individuals should be hassled more.
1 ˝ Day Tourney, October 12-13
Wentworth is the expected venue, but must be confirmed by Tournament Director, Jemery.
People are needed to help out with
lunches
BBQ
Party
T-Shirts
We need more women.
Sydney, 19th-20th September.
We are interested in sending a team, but we really need more women. The verdict was that we tell Tom, and get his opinion on the viability of sending a team.
We want to send a team.
We need to check numbers
We need a volunteer of Team Co-Ordinator
It was generally agreed that Jeff should contact the navy so we can organise a game against the next warship that comes in.
Needs work, which Jemery and Mamoru are looking into. The downsides are that we need a constitution, and we need to undergo a Financial Audit annually.
The verdict is that it is definitely worth all the crap we have to through.
Further discussion of this was delayed until we get more people at a meeting.
Nothing can happen here until we get incorporated.
This issue was raised due to comments by newbies that they weren’t happy with the cheer system.
There was much discussion, but the verdict was that it is completely up to the discretion of the Tourney/League director.
It was decided that a questionnaire will be distributed to every player at the end of each league to get feedback on the spirit/cheer.
Next meeting: August 14th, tentatively.
Meeting Closed 10:45 pm.
