Apologies - Leslie

Agenda:

  1. Nationals
  2. Mixed Nationals
  3. Incorporation
  4. Uni Games
  5. Tourney
  6. Winter League
  7. Minutes and Next Meeting
  1. Nationals

Primary Bid due this Friday. The details we need to send to Pottsy are:

Whatever we call ourselves when we incorporate. Tasmanian Ultimate Association? Southern Tasmanian Flying Disc Association, etc etc.

We are submitting Wentworth Park at this stage, as Shavawn talked to Debra there and she was very good. $22/hour (per field) including use of clubhouse, and if it’s big enough (which it will be) they will kick off the soccer that is scheduled there for that week. For other grounds we will use one of the schools nearby hopefully.

Other possible locations will still be checked out however over the next month…

24th to 27th April, 2003. Thursday to Monday 4 day tournament

(There was talk of making it from the Friday to Monday, but this was deemed unnecessary.)

For this one we need to get a copy of Ash’s budget for the 2002 Nats and make the necessary changes. This must be done ASAP…

I don’t remember this being discussed, and I didn’t take any notes on it. I assume we’ll just include this with the budget and mention that we may need a teensy weensy bit of financial support.

Easy enough to make up…

Friday 25th April, 19:00, Wentworth clubrooms, Bellerive.

There you go, I just did.

If the bid gets accepted, and we need a final bid, Joe will be responsible for this in Shavawn’s absence, with the assistance of Naomi and Dion.

  1. Mixed Nationals
  2. We looked into possibly bidding for Mixed Nationals as well, and many pros and cons were considered. The final verdict was to can the idea, primarily as it would de-value our Nationals bid.

It was mentioned that if our Nationals bid is rejected, and no-one has yet put their hand up for Mixed Nationals, we might say yes, but at this stage there will be no official bid.

  3. Incorporation
  4. Jemery has talked to Leigh Bird. Leigh will not merge with us, or let us take-over the Tasmanian Flying Disc Association, so basically we have to go it alone, which means writing our constitution, and forming an executive.

Constitution is an issue, but it shouldn’t be too difficult if we copy it from Queensland, New South Wales or the AFDA and make the required changes.

Mamoru will ring Tasmanian Sport + Rec to get details of what is required to affiliate with them, Jemery will hunt for info too, and Leslie’s name was mentioned as someone willing to help (not by her though)

Incorporation has been flagged as a MUST DO before our nationals bid goes too much further

  5. Uni-Games
  6. Apparently there is a lot of support for Tassie getting a team to the AUG, and Jemery was confident that we would not need to attend the SUG to qualify. Mamoru is looking into this and using his sweet-talking skills to confirm this.

If this is not the case, we will not attend.

If this is the case, we have a team of 7 guys and 2 girls definitely, so we need to find more girls to confirm a team.

If we do have a team, at the helm will be Cap’n Tom!

  7. Tourney at end of July
  8. A date has been set, the Tourney will be held on Saturday 27th July.

Full Day tournament, though it will be dark early so last game will probably finish around 4:00.

TD is Joe, unless some other sucker volunteers.

Current expectation is to field 4 teams, so it will be a round robin with 3 games, then the final.

Possible locations are Sandown, Darcy St, The Uni Footy Oval, but wherever it is, it must be booked soon.

We require a certificate of currency, which Jemery will look into.

  9. League Report
  10. Autumn league started last week, and all is well. Teams will be finalised this week, and the $5 fee seems appropriate, as everyone who didn’t go to nationals also needs to pay a $10 AFDA fee.

Winter league will start on the 29th of July until the end of the uni semester, which will be about 10 weeks, but there will be a 2 week break in the middle there where the two hat tourney is run. There will be a big push to try and get mixed teams of 4:3 for this and every subsequent tourney.

  11. Serious Sunday
  12. Ian will organise a "Serious Sunday" sometime soon, which will probably be on every two weeks. An idea of having a combination of a serious game and drills was proposed, and then having the same teams each week as a mini serious league was suggested. All this is up to Ian though, because he volunteered to organise the next "Serious Sunday"

The Tas-Nats mailing list will stay as it is, and will get used for nationals discussion.

The "Serious Sunday" will get publicised on the Tas-Ultimate mailing list, and people will be invited to attend.

  13. Naomi’s Collarbone
  14. Nothing is happening. She’s going to the doctor on Monday and may have another x-ray. Insurance is all under control so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

  15. Mamoru’s Plans for World Domination.
  16. Mamoru intends to make ultimate the next big thing in Hobart, and to do this he intends to have an Open day around October sometime, with lots of advertising and coaching clinics and stuff.

This is not an issue at the moment, so has been flagged for discussion in 2 months time.

  17. Minutes and Next Meeting

The Minutes will be sent to Jemery again, and this time they will be put up on the website for all to read.

Looks like Joe has become the regular minute-taking bitch, so he’ll write them up each time and submit them to Jemery.

The next meeting will most likely be in two weeks, but may be postponed if we haven’t heard anything about our preliminary bid.

Meeting adjourned: 10:30. Next meeting: either in 2, 4 or 6 weeks time, depending on what happens with the Nationals bid. Venue and date to be confirmed.
