Anti-doping
Overview
The AFDA fundamentally opposes the use of dangerous or unnatural
substances or methods for the purpose of enhancing performance (ie
doping). Such conduct is considered cheating and is outside of the
Spirit of the Game.
In order to ensure that flying disc sports are free of doping,
the WFDF and the AFDA have adoped Anti-doping Policies in line with
the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code.
As well, the AFDA is aware that failure to comply could lead to
ostracising of our sport at all levels of government and the
community.
To whom does it apply?
The AFDA is keen to ensure that the anti-doping measures are
only applied to those athletes who have identified themselves as
"elite" by participating in the highest levels of competition and
selection.
Although all members of the AFDA are bound by the Anti-Doping
Policy (ADP), policing will only occur at the highest level -
National Championships and international events. An exception would
occur if there were seen to be a problem at a lower level of the
game, since cheating is cheating, no matter what the prize being
sought.
International Athletes
International athletes are those who are participating in
international competitions such as the WFDF World Ultimate
Championships (WUC), WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC),
or IWGA World Games (WG), or who are members of a National Team or
are part of WFDF's Registered Testing Pool.
International athletes are subject to WFDF's Anti-Doping Policy.
Any ban which occurs at international level will be upheld by the
AFDA.
National Athletes
The AFDA is yet to decide at what level national-level athletes
will be tested. At bare minimum, it can be expected that athletes
who are part of National Squads will be subject to testing. It may
also include all athletes who participate at National Championships
if that competition is of an elite nature.
