We here at afda.com hope you got a nice surprise when you browsed over to our part of the internet today. Yes, we’ve got a whole new look! Please make yourself at home, but do us a favour for the moment and try not to break anything while we shake out any remaining bugs and get things into a routine. Before you take yourself on a bit of a click-tour, here’s a few thoughts for you early adopters. The News area is pretty similar to the old site. Any member of the AFDA can submit a news article – it then goes live once it has been approved by a member of the afda.com editorial team. We’re working on some guidelines for authors, but for a steer, why not check out the archives of a few thousand articles which stretch back well over a decade. A walk down Newsletter lane is also always illuminating. And of course, if you’re logged in, you can now provide your own comments and views to go with the news. Ultimate HQ is full of scads of information about Ultimate and how it is organised in Australia. As we update this information over the coming months, we’ll be sharing some highlights with you. Of course, the Australian Flying Disc Association (ie AFDA ie Ultimate Australia) is about more than Ultimate – the Other Disc Sports area helps our fellow enthusiasts, and may of course give Ultimate players some new ideas for other things to do with their discs. Membership is going to be one of the most popular parts of the new website for many of AFDA’s current members. Take the opportunity now to update all your details – so your mates can find you, so that you can register for competitions, and so Ultimate Australia can help you – plus you can now link yourself up to Facebook, put a profile photo of yourself up, or permanently add your shirt size and dietary choices.! We’ll be launching ‘Update Your Details’ week very soon, once the new website is bedded in, but there’s no reason you can’t get it all right now! And while you’re in the Membership area, why not express your views in the fab new Forums, or on the Poll (a great place to drop a thanks note too!)? Competitions is the other area where most members will be spending their time. Establishing the new competition registration system (and bringing over a decade of registration information) has been one of the most challenging parts of the changeover. Most players should be able to work out how to register themselves for upcoming events (but you can email us if you have an urgent problem – but why not use the forums if you don’t need to get sorted this very minute), and we’ll soon be publishing tips for organisers on how to set up the perfect League or Tournament event. Development gathers together a while heap of information for people to use when recruiting new players, developing Ultimate at their school or University, becoming a coach, and establishing and running an Ultimate Club. Australian Teams and Squads is THE place to go when you want to follow the Aussies when they go overseas, and where to find information should you fancy yourself a future Australian representative. Media is the place for material to promote, market and continue to grow disc sports in Australia, and an easy place for the media-savvy to get their information from. Finally, the Shop online front is there, but the back room is under development. Keep your eyes open. We’ll be polling soon on what Ultimate Australia branded delightful consumer items you’d like to see for sale there! All set then? We've still got tonnes of work to do - updating the content, making sure the rego system is tickety-boo, and so forth. But for now ,have a look around, and feel free to drop us a line in the Forums – particularly if you spot a problem. |
